Band Hero is pretty much Guitar Hero 5 meets American Idol, and is the type of game that will really appeal to those who want more pop out of their Guitar Hero band kits on the PS3.

Going into Band Hero, I really did not know what to expect, as I originally thought that it was going to be like a whole new music game.

That is really not the case here though, as this is pretty much Guitar Hero 5 with a whole new set of songs, aimed more for the pop fans out there than anything else.

Considering the success of Guitar Hero 5 and the rave reviews it received, including our review here at dbTechno, this is not a bad thing.

Activision and developer Neversoft made a smart move here by not trying to do too many thing differently.

Instead, what they did was take the Guitar Hero engine and allow it to be far more appealing to the mass market of teenagers out there who want more current pop songs rather than classic rock.

That is exactly what you get here with songs from Fall Out Boy, Jackson 5, Cheap Trick, Corinne Bailey Rae, Hinder, Taylor Swift, Spice Girls, No Doubt, and others.

The setlist is a mix of songs from the 1990s, 2000s, etc with everything carrying a very pop feel to it.

This game is great in terms of being accessible, as it is set up just like Guitar Hero 5.

You have the ability to have everyone play guitar, sing, jump in and out of songs, etc.

That pretty much sums it up, think of this as a glorified extension to Guitar Hero 5 that will certainly appeal to those who want to have a party without rocking out too hard.

Band Hero was a great idea and is something that may actually be more appealing to the mass market than even Guitar Hero 5. If you are a fan of these pop songs, and the majority of us out there are, this is something that you absolutely have to have at a party. Band Hero is a must-buy for music fans on the PS3.

Graphics: 8.5 Just as impressive as GH5, great-looking.

Audio: 9.2 A fantastic set-list to appeal to pop music fans.

Gameplay: 9.2 Fantastic stuff, tons of fun.

Replay Value: 9.0 This one has so much potential at parties, it is ridiculous.

Final Score: 9.0
