Boston (DbTechNo) – Despite huge years and breakout performances, the US music industry took a hit last year when it came to album sales.
Some new names have burst onto the music seen, pushing album sales in the way not seen before but despite this fact, overall when the numbers were tallied, sales overall were down from previous years.
Another factor that has resulted in a drop of album sales is the growing popularity of illegal downloading from various file sharing web sites.
It is becoming much easier for people to simply download their favorite tracks from the internet than to go out and buy the entire album from a music store.
Personally, I rarely am a fan of the entire album of any given artist, only finding a few of the tracks worth calling ones I like to listen too on a regular basis.
Last year, more than 373 million albums were sold, down more than 12% from previous years.
When it came to the top selling artist, Michael Jackson’s death did wonders for his popularity as he lead the way closely followed by country sensation Taylor Swift.
More than 8 million Jackson albums were sold last year, followed by Swift, and the Beatles.
When it came to the top musical genre, rock lead the way with more than 124 million album downloads.
