Surrogates
Blu-ray Review
Touchstone Home Entertainment
Released: January 2010
Surrogates was one of those movies that looked extremely cool when you saw the trailer, and left you hoping that the actual movie would live up to the hype. Now that the film has hit Blu-ray and DVD, some of those questions can be answered.
Surrogates stars Bruce Willis and revolves around the idea that everyone in the world is basically a robot.
The whole premise is that you live your life through this Surrogate.
You sit down in this machine that reminds you of The Matrix, and you take over your Surrogate body.
Once there, you are free to do whatever you want, and experience everything through this other being.
This is a very interesting notion, and one that makes for a great sci-fi flick revolving around FBI agent Tom Greer, played by Bruce Willis.
This film looks tremendous on Blu-ray, being presented in full 1080p in a 2.40:1 aspect ratio throughout.
The use of colors and details make for a great atmosphere throughout the film, giving it a gritty and futuristic approach.
The audio track is equally as impressive, being presented in 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. The audio presents the action nicely and does a great job of using both the front and rear channels.
The Blu-ray release packs everything from the DVD release plus some.
These extras start out with a music video by Breaking Benjamin, as well as an audio commentary track by director Jonathan Mostow.
Beyond that, the Blu-ray exclusive extras include deleted scenes, as well as a featurette looking at the science of Surrogates, as well as the making-of the film, bringing it from the novel to the big screen.
Surrogates is a very fun and entertaining sci-fi action film that fans of movies such as I, Robot will have a blast with.
This one is well-worth picking up on Blu-ray thanks to the nice exclusive extras.
