Clive Owen stars in the touching drama The Boys Are Back that has released on the DVD format.

The Boys Are Back was shot in Australia, and was touted by many critics as one of the best dramas of 2009.

Clive Owen plays the role of a sports writer by the name of Joe Warr, who runs into tragedy when his wife dies of cancer.

He has to raise his young son on his own, as the movie turns from being extremely depressing to being touching and uplifting over the long-haul.

For fans of dramas, this one will truly touch you and is not one to miss, one of the better movies I have seen in a long time that I had never heard of.

The audio and video quality, though not superb, certainly gets the job done on DVD.

The audio track is pretty front-heavy, which I was not too pleased with, but with it being a drama it has to be expected a bit. Dialogue comes across very crisp and clear.

I had very few issues with the video transfer, as there was minimal grain and nice use of colors throughout.

The extras on this release are a bit lacking, but considering that the film is not all that well-known, it does not surprise me.

Extras consist of some commentary and a feature looking at the film’s production, making-of, etc.

This is a fantastic picture throughout with a touching story, not one to miss on DVD, even if you just grab it as a rental.

Film: 8.9

Video: 8.0

Audio: 8.0

Extras: 6.5

Final Score: 7.4
