Ellen DeGeneres Debuts on American Idol Tonight

Boston (DbTechNo) – The one and only Ellen DeGeneres makes her debut tonight when American Idol takes center stage in Hollywood.

The comedian replaces the popular Paula Abdul who left the show after last year due to contract issues.

DeGeneres, 52, should bring a new demographic of fans to the popular talent competition, which is the number one watched reality television show in America.

“Ellen brings a huge fan base and people will be curious to see how she does. But if she performs poorly, that is bad for the show’s long-term health,” said Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Slezak.

So far viewership of Idol is down from a year ago, and has dropped considerably since 2006.

With Simon Cowell leaving next year, many are wondering who will be his replacement?

DeGeneres joins regular judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Simon.
