Dante’s Inferno
Sony PS3 Review
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: EA Redwood Studios
Released: February 9, 2010
Dante’s Inferno has stormed onto the next-generation PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles with quite a force, and a lot of hype surrounding it, but does this action game pack the necessary punch to earn the adoration of the masses?
Dante’s Inferno follows the classic The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, where Dante has to go down to hell to save the love of his life, Beatrice.
Once he gets down there though, Dante has some major tail to kick as he goes through all of the various stages of hell on his way through this massive and highly-entertaining story.
The game plays out very similar to God of War, Heavenly Sword, and other high-octane action games out there.
As you fight, you will get to experience some killer attacks that Dante can throw out at his enemies, and the more damage that is done, the more skills he attains.
Dante wil acquire souls every time he kills an enemy, and the more souls that he acquires, the more abilities and attacks that he can purchase.
This makes for a deep game in terms of its combat set-up as you will constantly be upgrading your attacks and experiencing new things as you go along.
Each of the levels that you go through has a lot of detail and were all designed very nicely, with a lot of thought being put ito them for sure.
My only issue with the combact is that at times things felt a bit too easy, as you could pretty much button-mash your way through the whole game if you really wanted to, but it is certainly more fun to take your time and try out different varying attacks.
The control system certainmly makes for good fun though and anyone who likes a good beat-em-up action adventure will certainly have fun here.
In regards to the visuals, Dante’s Inferno is actually a very impressive game.
The whole atmosphere that is set up here makes for one very cool version of hell, as you will get to see some pretty cool texture-work, special effects, fluid animations, etc.
The only downfall is the lack of detail in some spots, especially on the characters as the main character and enemies certainly could have used a bit more work.
The key here though is the fluidity of it all as the game is fast and extremely smooth.
The audio is also quite impressive as you will get some great voice acting as well as sound effects to really set a nice atmosphere for the whole gameplay experience.
Action fans will have a lot of fun with Dante’s Inferno on both the PS3 or the Xbox 360. It is no God of War III, but it is certainly worth picking up to hold you over for a few weeks.
