The Stepfather Blu-ray Review

DVD Review<strong>The Stepfather</p> <p>Blu-ray Review<br /> Sony Pictures<br /> Released: March 2010</strong></p> <p>The Stepfather is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name, and stars none other than Dylan Walsh from Nip Tuck, along with Michael Harding from Gossip Girl. Unfortunately this horror film does little to stimulate the senses and ends up being largely a snore-fest.</p> <p>The Stepfather opens up with Dylan Walsh, the “stepfather” being seen murdering his family in a dull all-too-set-up fashion.</p> <p>From here we fast-forward to him meeting a new family, and the mother’s son coming home from military school.</p> <p>The whole thing is so set up and blah that you really don’t ever make any connection or get any feeling of suspense.</p> <p>As you would expect, the son is suspicious of the stepfather and things just go on from there, with the big finish being all-too-predictable and even too blah to be considered PG-13.<span id=

The Stepfather is one horror movie that really is not worth your time. If done properly, it could have been entertaining a la a movie such as Disturbia, but the execution is just lacking.

The audio and video quality are the two highlights of the release as both are of high-quality, with video being presented in 2.40:1 aspect ratio, while the audio is presented in a nice DTS-HD MA track that is full of life and atmosphere.

Extras here leave a lot to be desired though as there is a lot of content but not much meat to them.

These include a featurette looking at the stunts, making the fulm, as well as a gag reel and commentary with the director and some of the cast.

The Stepfather just doesn’t connect with its audience and really lacks the suspense-factor needed to keep you on the edge of your seat. This snooze-fest is not worth your time or money.
