Emmy-winning screenwriter David Mills has died from a brain aneurysm at the age of 48.
According to an HBO spokesman he died yesterday in New Orleans while on the set of the new HBO show “Treme” to debut April 11th.
Mills began his career as a newspaper writer and quickly moved up the ranks writing scripts for some of television’s biggest shows including “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “NYPD Blue,” “ER” and “The Wire.”
His new venture, “Treme” is centered in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina swept through the city, leaving thousands homeless and hundreds dead.
The death of Mills follows the death of Treme star Bernard “Bunchy” Johnson, who recently died from a massive heart attack.
