Music has always been a passion of mine, but learning an instrument is something which has always frightened me a bit. I have made attempts in the past at learning to play the guitar, piano, etc, but have never really mastered any of them. Fretlight has come out with electric guitars that mix technology with good old-fashioned instruments, and the result is something truly special.

The Fretlight FG-421 Electric Guitar is a real electric guitar that actually teaches you how to play.

This all works due to the fact that the guitar is powered via a computer and some special software.

The guitar is available in various colors including black, white, as well as red and pink, so depending on the artist you want to be, you can truly have anything to suit your taste.

The way in which it works is that the guitar interactively teaches you how to play.

There is software that can teach players of all skill levels and it works on the Mac or PC.

The guitar hooks up to the computer via a USB cable, and once you install the software you are ready to go.

The guitar is unique as it actually lights up on the neck to show you where you need to have your fingers to play the particular song.

This is a great idea and is executed nicely as it really does allow you to learn how to play the guitar.

You will quickly find yourself learning the notes, how to make certain sounds, play songs, etc.

This is basically a mix of Guitar Hero meets real instruments, and is a phenomenal idea.

The whole presentation is terrific as the guitar itself looks simply awesome, there is no other way to say it.

The FretLight comes with a manual, discs to set up the software, USB cable, etc.

The game teaches you to start out via the Lesson Player, where you can download Lesson Packs with new songs. The whole first pack is included though so you get 30 lessons to start out with.

My only gripe is with the software, as there just seemed to be too much going on as beginners will require some time and learning curve to find where to go, what to use, etc.

Overall though, Optek has done a great job with the FretLight FG-421.

The training software is not the most perfect thing in the world, but it does a great job of teaching you.

Needless to say, I have never been able to play the guitar before, but thanks to this product, I felt as if I was truly making some progress, this one is definitely recommended for music-lovers of all skill levels!
