Invictus
Blu-ray Review
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment
Released: May 2010
Invictus, starring two of the greatest actors of our time, Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, has finally come home on Blu-ray.
Invictus follows the story of a rugby team that manages to inspire and spark great hope, and is directed by none other than Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood.
Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela, a political prisoner in South Africa for over 20-years.
He gets his freedom, and gets elected president in his country in the mid-1990s.
Mandela is president of a divided country, and manages to find unity in an unlikely place, the rugby field, thanks to Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon).
This may come across as a sport story, but it is really a story about bringing people together, and when you bring together Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon, and Clint Eastwood, you really have magic on-screen.
The film looks and sounds fantastic on Blu-ray as you would expect.
The video is presented in 2.39:1 aspect ratio in full 1080p. Special features are also presented in high-definitioni to top it off.
A nice audio track presented in DTS-HD Master Audio created an encompassing atmosphere that it is of theater-quality.
The extras on this release are very cool, as you see Morgan Freeman meeting Nelson Mandela himself.
On top of that, you get Clint Eastwood in a feature that has him reflecting on his career.
The nice picture-in-picture track adds a lot to the overall picture as well.
The package contains the film on Blu-ray, DVD, as well as digital copy.
Invictus is a great story of unity and brings together some of the greatest actors in the history of Hollywood. This one is an absolute must-see!
