Clash of the Titans
Xbox 360 Review
Publisher: Namco Bandai
Developer: Game Republic
Released: July 2010
Clash of the Titans is the video game release that coincides with the release of the blockbuster film on DVD and Blu-ray, but unfortunately this one falls into the trap of being a very poor movie-video game for the Xbox 360 and PS3, leaving gamers wanting so much more.
Clash of the Titans on the Xbox 360 is yet another licensed movie video game that simply lacks polish, creativity, and overall entertainment value, leaving you constantly asking why the heck the developer did certain things, and did not do other things in the development process.
The game follows the movie very closely as you get the whole story here for the most part, your job is to play as Perseus and carry out your heroic efforts to battle the gods and do all of that fun stuff.
The idea behind the game, as it should have been, is to set up in a a God of War style third-person beat-em-up affair. The only problem though is that the game loses all fun-factor once you actually get into these battles.
The combat system here leaves you wanting more as you have a very limited array of attacks that you can pull off. On top of that, you never really feel like you have control over your character, as you end up just whacking buttons and watching what is going on in the game itself.
The developer tried to add some spice and freedom to the game, giving you the option as to when you want to take on these “quests.” Ultimately though the freedom dies when you realize that outside of these levels, there really is not a whole lot you can do.
Another attempt to add some enjoyment to this gaming affair was the attempt at a 2-player co-operative mode, but again, it is very lacking. In order to play co-operative, you need to get through about 2 hours of the game, and at that point, it only works on certain missions.
The graphics are decent, as is the audio presentation, but things such as the animation and voice acting are pretty embarassing to be quite honest.
Overall, Clash of the Titans just leaves way too much to be desired, the gameplay is not fun, and the audio/visual presentation is too bland to pick up the slack, unfortunately this is one game to avoid.
