The Last Song
Blu-ray Review
Touchstone Home Entertainment
Released: August 2010
The Last Song was marketed and pushed to appeal to fans of films like The Notebook, and taking that into account, it certainly succeeded as the simplistic love story hits the Blu-ray format.
The Last Song stars Disney star Miley Cyrus and is based on the story by author Nicholas Sparks, writer of Dear John as well as The Notebook, which as we all know reached new heights when it hit the big screen.
If you saw The Notebook or read any of the novels of this fantastic author you really should know what to expect here overall.
Miley Cyrus plays the role of a teenager who has a gift for music, but has a hard time when her parents get a divorce. She ends up meeting a boy, no surprise there, and over time you see a love story evolve before your eyes.
The story is simplistic in nature but has a nice romantic touch that will surely please fans of these types of films.
The audio and video presentation here on Blu-ray are absolutely top notch as the scenery here is tremendous with great color schemes, details, etc. The audio is equally impressive with crisp and clear dialogue throughout. The audio and video presentation sets a great atmosphere on Blu-ray that makes for an even more enjoyable film.
In regards to the extras, you get a few decent add-ins here such as a new opening sequence, deleted scenes, as well as an audio commentary and featurette.
Miley Cyrus fans will be happy to see the music video When I Look At You as well as a making of the music video to top it off. Extras will appeal to the core audience of the film but do little to really spark the imagination.
One nice added value here is that you get a DVD copy of the film added in with its own extras.
The Last Song on Blu-ray is worth picking up for fans of romantic films such as The Notebook. It has its flaws, and certainly is not a classic by any means, but it will definitely touch those who watch it and are into that sort of film, recommended.
