Colin Firth to star in film about West Memphis Three

Colin Firth is set to star in the film “Devil’s Knot,” based on the true-life story of the West Memphis Three in what has been considered one of the worst cases of miscarried justice in the history of the US.

The film tells the story of the heinous murder of three boyscouts in 1993.

Three teenagers were convicted and spent 18 years in prison for the crimes before being released in an uncommon deal which allowed them to maintain their innocence while admitting that the State has enough evidence to convict them.

The Academy Award winning Firth will play investigative journalist, Ron Lax, who devoted years to the case, ultimately uncovering crucial DNA evidence in his efforts to prove the teens’ innocence. Reese Witherspoon will be co-staring in the film as a mother of one of the murdered boyscouts.

The film is scheduled to begin filming June 2012 in Georgia.
