Matthew McConaughey Admits Weight Loss Secrets

Actor Matthew McConaughey must lose 30 pounds in order to take on his next film role in The Dallas Buyers Club as a man who contracts the HIV virus.

But the actor says he is shedding the pounds sensibly to stay healthy by drinking lots of tea. He admits to already having lost 15 pounds and needs to shed the extra 15 more by the time the film begins production in mid-September.

“I’m losing some weight,” a thin McConaughey says on Larry King’s new Ora TV webseries, Larry King Now. “I’ve got a role coming up in the middle of September. I’ve lost about 15 pounds, I’ve gotta lose about 15 more.”

McConaughey says that the weight loss process has become a sort of spiritual and mental cleansing for him as well.

“It’s a bit of a spiritual cleanse, mental cleanse. (I’m) drinking a lot of tea. It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you’re not going to give it something else from the outsid,” said the 42-year-old actor.

“I should not look healthy by the time I’m doing this,” McConaughey confesses.

McConaughey recently received rave reviews for his work in the film “Mad Mike.”
