That opened up a ripe opportunity for fans being “punked”. In comes a film trailer for “Transformers 4 – Rise of Galvatron” which was nothing short of a hoax. However, it wasn’t until the trailer had generated some attention that it was declared a fraud. Thus far, there hasn’t been any indication as to which “decepticons” will challenge the transformers who are the defenders of the earth.
The first three Transformers films have generated over $2.6 billion in box office receipts. Release number four is tentatively expected to come out in 2014 but little has been announced of the film.
One major item that has been announced is that actor Mark Wahlberg will be taking over the starring role from Shia LeBeouf. Wahlberg himself is no stranger to box office hits such as “The Italian Job”, “The Departed”, “Planet of the Apes”, and “The Fighter”.
However, not one of those films has come close to the box office draw of the Transformers films. Should “Transformers 4″ repeat the prior success of the franchise, Mark Wahlberg’s career will most certainly improve.
“Mark is awesome,” wrote Bay on Thursday. “We had a blast working on Pain & Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his calibre is the perfect guy to reinvigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers legacy.”
