First Real Look at Star Trek Into Darkness

The first real sneak peek at Star Trek Into Darkness will be shown in IMAX cinema’s around the U.S. during the 2012 holiday season.

Audiences attending IMAX 3D screenings of the highly anticipated Peter Jackson blockbuster The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be treated to around nine minutes of unseen Star Trek Footage from the new Star Trek movie from December 14th onwards.

Director J.J. Abrams filmed a number of sequences for Into Darkness using specially designed IMAX 3D cameras to improve the experience for IMAX theatregoers watching the new Star Trek movie, reports Science Fiction.

The latest installment of the Star Trek franchise is hotly anticipated after the 2009 Star Trek movie made over $300 million at the box office.

During an appearance on the U.S. talk show Conan, Abrams premiered a brief clip of Star Trek Into Darkness that lasted less than one second. The Paramount Pictures release is scheduled for release on May 15th, 2013.

IMAX Filmed Entertainment President, Greg Foster, said:
