Spike Lee has some choice words for fellow director Quinten Tarantino’s new film “Django Unchained.” Specifically, he calls it “disrespectful” to black people and it makes light of slavery.
Lee has recently tweeted that slavery is not a “spaghetti western” and calls it a “holocaust.” Lee is critical of the film even though he has not seen it and does not plan to see it.
The two directors have a history of animosity that dates back to the late 90’s when Lee questioned Tarantino’s use of the “n-word” in the movie “Jackie Brown.” Even though Lee has used the word in his movies he feels that Tarantino uses the word in excess.
Despite Lee’s criticism the film has received rave reviews from most critics. “Django Unchained” is nominated for five Golden Globe awards, including Best Picture – Drama and Best Director.
So far, Tarantino has not responded to Lee’s remarks.
