Judge Judy Being Sued over Full Value of Pricey Tableware
Judy Sheindlin, better known as Judge Judy from the reality TV show of the same name, is being sued as a result of a purchase of expensive tableware from one of her show’s producers.
Sheindlin recently purchased a set of Christofle tableware from Randy Douthit, one of the TV show’s producers, for $50,000 in cash.
The lawsuit, filed by Douthit’s bitter ex-wife, claims the tableware was worth over half a million dollars and that her estranged husband sold the tableware to Judge Judy in an effort to deny her full value of the asset during their acrimonious divorce.
The ex-wife and plaintiff in the lawsuit, Patric Jones, is demanding that Sheindlin either turn over the tableware to her or compensate her for the market value of the chinaware.
For her part, Judge Judy isn’t taking this lying down and claims the lawsuit is “frivolous” and should be tossed out of court.
“I have not seen any complaint by the former Mrs. Douthit,” Sheindlin told TMZ. “However, I don’t owe this lady a cent. And if this 50-year-old woman would spend her time more productively at trying to find a job, instead of abusing the judicial system with frivolous lawsuits, we would all be a lot better off.”
