Famous Sportscaster Al Michaels Charged With DUI

Although many people know and revere legendary sportscaster Al Michaels as a talented man who was funny enough to yell out “Do you believe in miracles” during the 1980 Winter Olympics, recent developments in the broadcaster’s life may be revealing a less humorous side. On Friday night, Michaels was arrested and subsequently charged with a misdemeanor DUI, accordng to Santa Monica police. The arrest took place in Santa Monica.

CNN reports that Sgt. Ryan Gradle found Michaels very cooperative throughout the arrest and was released on his own recognizance the following morning. In reporting on the event, The Los Angeles Times notes that Michaels was examined for suspicion of drunk drinking and then brought into the station to take a Breathalyzer test, which came out at .08. Because this was at the legal limit, Michaels was released and given a citation.

The Los Angeles Inmate Information Center states that the current announcer for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” spent five hours total in jail. Now, Michaels will appear before the Los Angeles Municipal Court on Jun 26 at 8:30 a.m.

According to CNN, neither Michaels nor NBC have come forth with immediate comment. CNN has attempted to contact Michaels’ representatives.
