Both Patrick and Stenhouse are NASCAR drivers and the accident took place on the track of the Coca-Cola 600 in Concord, North Carolina,
CBS Local describes the strange wreck:
A nylon rope from an overhead camera system used by Fox Sports snapped and fell on the track, messed up a few cars, caused a red flag to be dropped and injured 10 fans — three of whom had to be transported to the hospital.
That was the type of night it was at Charlotte Motor Speedway. And the fact that such a crazy race was run under a full moon only added to the oddity.
last night. Following the incident, both Patrick and Stenhouse were able to get their cars repaired and resume the race, but neither has spoken publicly about this incident fueling concerns the wreck may extend past the racing track.
In all fairness, Stenhouse, whose car clipped Patrick’s sending her into the wall, did not cause the accident; driver Brad Keselowski caused the wreck and has taken responsibility for it. Keselowski explained that he cut off Patrick and caused what he termed was “a big wreck”.
No one was injured but the wreck took Keselowski out of the race because his vehicle was not repairable.
Patrick and Stenhouse resumed the race. Stenhouse finished in 14th place two laps behind and Patrick finished 29th trailing by fifteen laps. Keselowski has apologized for the accident. He had previously hinted that Patrick isn’t worthy of attention as a driver because she hasn’t proven herself to be competitive.
Neither driver had tweeted about the incident late Sunday night.
Kevin Harvick would go on to win the race.
