Home Featured in Film ‘Home Alone’ Sells for $1.585 Million
Winnetka, Ill -The spacious home featured in the box office smash hit 1990 film “Home Alone” sold for $1.585 million back in 2012. However, the home was on the market for a year and had to undergo price reductions from the original list price of $2.4 million. Well, that is the nature of the real estate market in a post 2008 Financial Crisis world. The home’s previous owners were Cynthia Abendshien and her husband John.
The Chicago Tribune reports the couple had owned the house just prior to the time that acclaimed Hollywood director John Hughes featured the house in the film. The home was made famous for the defense that actor Macaulay Culkin put up to prevent burglars from invading the house. By the time the film had made its box office impact, it was one of the highest grossing films ever having made nearly $500 million on a budget of $18 million.
The film immortalized scenes such as Culkin’s slide down the staircase of the home, icing the rear stair well leading to the basement, and booby-trapping the doggie door in the kitchen. The home itself stands tall at three stories and 4,250 square feet of space.
