DiCaprio first set foot on Blackadore during a holiday visit the year earlier and has expressed plans to develop both a hotel and a private airplane landing strip on the 104-acre island located several miles west of Ambergris Caye.
There are reports that the actor, star of such blockbuster films as “Aviator” and “Titanic” paid more than $1.7 million for the island.
In keeping with his commitment to environmental causes, DiCaprio has been working with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts to develop an eco-friendly design for the property which places the least impact on the area’s natural resources.
He is also allegedly inviting other celebrities to partner with him by purchasing other portions of the island, including golf pro Tiger Woods and fellow Motion Picture Academy Member Robert DiNiro.
The design of DiCaprio’s Blackadore Caye resort will feature all renewable energy resources, as well as private villas, each with their own pool and beachfront access.
