The Country music personality cited “irreconcilable differences” on the petition. He issued a statement, part of which was a plea for privacy for the sake of his daughters, ten year old Keely and five year old Kendyl, at a difficult time. He also stated that Ussery had been a part of his life for many years and would always be important to him.
“This is a really tough time for my entire family. Jessica and I have been together since we were teenagers. We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs over the years as we grew up together as a couple,” Aldean exclusively told PEOPLE in a statement.
“She will always be important to me because she is the mother of my children, and I know that we will both always make our daughters our number one priority.”
“I’ve learned that everyone always rushes to judgment when they hear news like this. That’s really hard because no one knows anything about our relationship but us,” he continued. “I understand that because of my job, I have to go through a lot of this in the public eye, but for my girls’ sake I really wish people would give us some level of privacy and at the very least be respectful of them.”
One day before Aldean actually filed, his rep issued a statement that the couple had been experiencing problems. There is speculation about the cause behind the split. It comes within a year of a scandal in which Aldean was photographed in an intimate stance in a bar with former American Idol contestant, Brittney Kerr. Shortly after the scandal both he and Kerr issued apologies for their inappropriate behavior, and Aldean stated that his family was “Okay.”
In the beginning of this year, the couple separated. At the time of the split, their rep stated that there had been trouble in the relationship, even before the scandal with Kerr. Aldean attended the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 7th of this year alone.
