Nintendo To Delay Increasing Production Of Nintendo Wii
August 19, 2007
New York (dBTechno) - On Friday, it was reported that Nintendo Co will delay increased production of the Nintendo Wii video game console due to lack of unnamed components.
The company had expected to increase supply in June.
As a result, the Nintendo Wii supply will remain in a shortage worldwide, reported digitimes.
According to estimates, Nintendo has sold 9.3 million consoles to date. In April, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata admitted the company had been unable to foresee the strong demand for its latest games console.
At present, the Wii is outselling the Xbox 360 four to one while it is outselling the PS3 six to one, according to chart track.
If supply remains an issue over the holiday season, Nintendo will likely lose ground on Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Microsoft’sXbox 360 — both of which have recently seen price reductions.

I can’t really blame Nintendo for this one… not even they thought they could dominate like they have done so far. Lack of production may be a good thing though; with so many good titles coming out for the other consoles just in time for Christmas, I’m sure they would have seen a market driven drop in demand for the Wii anyway.
