dbTechno reviews Furu Furu Park on the Nintendo WiiFuru Furu Park

Nintendo Wii Review
Publisher: Majesco
Developer: Taito
Price: $19.99
Release: January 17, 2008
Players: 1-2

Game compilations are nothing new, as we have seen games such as Namco Museum and others throughout the years be released, some good, some bad. Majesco though, I must say, has a great mini-game compilation here on the Nintendo Wii called Furu Furu Park, created by the classic gaming guru Taito. For $20, this isn’t all that bad of a release.

Furu Furu Park offers 30 min-games for the Nintendo Wii. There are also remix stages which add challenge to the current games if they are not difficult enough for hardcore gamers out there.

The games have a great level of variety including arcade classic and more innovative, newer games.

Taito fans will certainly recognize many of the classics though including Arkanoid, Pinch Hitter, Bubble Bobble, Safe Cracker, Sonic Blastman 20XX, and Super Karate.

The games have a solid level of variety to them as you will be doing many different things as you go along. You will go from shooting and action to just playing a simple retro arcade puzzler, to trying to use your memory to unlock a safe.

The way in which the controls work in the majority of games here is wither with holding the Wii remote sideways, similar to an old NES-style, or holding it in a certain position in one hand to do some type of movement.

The motion controls are used very well here as you will go through many different mini-games. Some, such as Pinch Hitter, have you swinging the Wii remote like a baseball bat, while others such as Sushi and Sushi Fever, have you cooking sushi dinners for customers, as I stated a very wide variety of games.  Some of the motion-controls though do not always work perfectly.

Single-player game modes include Free-Play and Solo Modes, but the real fun is in multi-player.

The multi-player aspect of Furu Furu Park is in place, even though it is only for 1 – 2 players. There are three different modes including Free-Battle Mode, which allows you to select games and compete in a quick match scenario. There is also Panel Attack which makes you go against each other in specific events, and Love Challenge. Love Challenge is a very unique game mechanic as it tests out how compatible two people actually are to each other. You get to see how you each do playing mini-games, who is better than who, etc.

Don’t expect to be blown away by the graphics or audio here, but each does a nice job. Furu Furu Park is animated well with some great artistic work being done on the models and stages. The menu system is nice, and the audio is also very well-put-together with great little sound effects and catchy tunes!

Overall Furu Furu Park is a great buy on the Nintendo Wii for $20. There is some multi-player value here, as well as single-player fun. The level of variety in games makes this a great package on the Wii for $20. If it were priced at $40 or $50 the scores would clearly be lower. Considering the price-point though, it has a lot of value.

Graphics: 6.0 Simple visuals but they have some good artistic value and definitely look respectable on the Wii.

Audio: 6.5 Nice little sound effects and catchy tunes will please the ears.

Gameplay: 7.5 A nice variety of games here to please any type of gamer, casual or hardcore.

Replay Value: 7.0 For $20, you really cannot go wrong with the content here! Plenty on the single-player and multi-player ends to make you feel like you got your money’s worth.

Final Score: 7.0

Wow. Either I’m paranoid or Majesco/Taito paid this reviewer to heap praise on this product and add a positive adjective in every sentence. Not to mention the exclamation marks.
