It depends really, if the common populace makes the shift to HD-TV’s, Nintendo might find alot of people not wanting to deal with graphics from 2 generations ago. (PS3/360 last gen, DX10 next gen, Wii - 2 gens ago). The machine is doing a great job currently, but who knows where things will bring us 2-4 yrs from now.

As far as I can tell it looks like Nintendo is riding the back of the tech wave (sorta the same thing I’m doing with my PC).
The odd thing is, when it comes to a PC it makes more sense for the end user (me) because I can’t afford to fork out too much money on a PC. When it comes to consoles, you can afford to go for the higher end consoles simply because you get an entire machine for the price of a high end video card.
In Nintendo’s case, they ride the back of the tech wave, use cheaper components and the end user “may” see a bit of the cost reduction but not too much. Nintendo never loses money on it’s consoles. This makes sense company wise but the customer ends up with a pretty low tech system for the money they pay.

They are talking about Video Game Consoles. A specialized computer that connects to a VIDEO source (being a television, since the ’60s), not a computer display as a main option, nor does it sit on a desk. Not a PC. PCs are in the Computer gaming field, and, in order to get direct X 10, one has to buy the Microsoft pushed currently crappy OS Windows Vista to really experience it. Most people can connect a console and start using it with more ease than a PC (thus the reason Apple made the ever-so-popular iMac with most hardware integrated into the display. I think consoles won’t disappear for a long time yet.
I believe that Nintendo has taken the same route as their N64 and GC. I mean that they rely solemnly on the games created with their own characters, e.g Mario and Luigi. And now that the Wii’s came out, they are doing the identical: not giving gamers choice, but they expect the Wii owners to follow, and purchase everything Nintendo recommends; and with my experience of every Nintendo console, they are useless without their characters Mario, link ect. Nintendo have always got by with novelty, with the N64, it was the 3D, however Sony still won that battle with their CD use. Handhelds being seen enjoyed out of home, attracted more, and more people in a cycle of self advertisement. In comparison of the PS360 (lol), it amazes me how people are fine with the poor graphics, but the next Zelda will probably look alot better seeing as twilight princess was originally for the GC. Alos, he little white block also has an ATI imprint on it, showing how they can put just that little less effort into their console, ATI is for PC gaming. Not the next generation of high quality gaming! I recently sold my Wii to buy a 360, I like to saying I’m the biggest Nintendo fan, but I still don’t mind preaching to the internet that they have let the gaming crowds down.
i nintendo can do it they made videogames sence the early 80’s what i thick is it’s time for nintendo to kick sony’s ass and microsolft 80’s style
Wii - The graphics are too simple. Great start to having family fun along with a workout but the graphics …. please ???? What a dissappointment.
PS3 - Graphics are great. Can play online or not. Doesn’t have the interaction that the Wii has … I say so what. It does have blue ray which is now the standad format and NetFlix will be switching….. blue ray is here HD who knows?
Xbox 360 - Graphics are great. Can play online or not. Doesn’t have the intetraction that the Wii has…. again so what. Does not have blue ray. Maybe it will? uses HD DVD … maybe it will get blue ray?
I would say PS3 is the one to go with only because it has the track record from prior game consoles and Sony does not like to loose.
As for console to PC. I have gone through too many PC’s because the graphics board is 2 yrs old and already doe not have enough video memory, the ram needs to be increased, the processor is too slow etc. etc. etc. and at 2K a pop for decent ones it does not seem to be worth it. I am used to buying something and having it be useful for at least 5-10 years. Consoles appear to last a lot longer than PC and don;t require as much out of pocket cash to buy one. So, my PC will be used to handle word processing, spreadsheets etc. and the opccasional game that is not found on console games and the console will be left to get to the good stuff.
Game on.
PS3 is what I will be getting. Let’s hope it stays at teh top and doesn’t take a nose dive.
