Marvel Universe Online MMO Canceled
February 12, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Microsoft Game Studio’s head Shane Kim has announced that the MMO based on the Marvel Comics universe, Marvel Universe Online, has been canceled.
Cryptic Studios was the developer but the game was confirmed to be canned by Kim when he stated in an interview with MTV Multiplayer “I’ll confirm, Marvel and we have agreed to end development on the MMO. It was an amicable decision, for us and for them, it would be better if we ended development. Which is disappointing, because that had a lot of promise. But sometimes you have to make these decisions.”
Back in 2005 Microsoft and Marvel announced an agreement for the MMO, but little was known beyond that point.
Kim stated that the MMO market is extremely competitive and the subscription model presents some challenges basically.
He stated that it is “in the interest of both parties for us not to continue.”
