R.I.P. HD DVD, Wal-Mart Goes Blu-ray Exclusively
February 15, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Wal-Mart has come out and announced that they have decided to drop the HD DVD format and exclusively support the Sony Blu-ray high-def DVD format. This comes as rumors persist that Toshiba is getting ready to drop the HD DVD format entirely.
This comes just after other similar announcements from the likes of Best Buy, Netflix, and others all pledging their support to the Sony Blu-ray format.
Toshiba has been pushing to try and boost HD DVD sales by lowering the price of players, as they have lost money on each HD DVD player they have sold.
There is still no official word form Toshiba, but now that Wal-Mart has gone exclusively to the Blu-ray format, kit is all but over for HD DVD.
Wal-Mart stated that by this time June, they will be only carrying Blu-ray movies and Blu-ray players, there will not be any HD DVD players or movies sold in Wal-Mart.
