They hope to ease the fears of many GTA IV fans on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, as they are claiming the changes are not that big.

Rockstar has put out an official statement saying that the Australian version of GTA IV had to be edited to meet the MA15+ rating.

This is because there is still no 18+ rating in Australia.

They state that “there are some minor differences between the Australian and US/EU versions.”

Rockstar is insisting though that “they are not significant.”

They do not believe it will take away from the “incredible experience” that will be GTA IV.

“We would not release the game in Australia if we believed these differences compromised the quality of the game in any way.”

Rockstar has also called on Australia to create an 18+ rating so that this will not happen again.

This is a pretty generic response. Until a detailed list of changes is made it could mean anything.

I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to edit out certain aspect of a game this complex. Removing blood effect isn’t too hard but creating alternate/toned down voice acting would be a LOT of extra work. Hopefully Rockstar is right and the differences are minor.
