Konami Uses BitTorrent On PS3 With Metal Gear Online
April 18, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - Konami is using BitTorrent on the PS3 to patch their Metal Gear Online Beta, which was released to the public and made available for download just days ago. We have tested out the download, and it is safe to say that it may take you awhile to patch the Metal Gear Online Beta.
The game, once downloaded off of the PlayStation Network, will appear and will be able to be launched.
Once you get into the game though it will ask you if you want to update.
You have the option to go for a P2P download, or an HTTP download.
Konami recommends on-screen that you take the P2P option, which has BitTorrent written next to it.
We have tested out both the P2P option and the HTTP option and can safely say that both are a major pain in the behind.
The HTTP option was incredibly slow, while the P2P option performed a bit better.
The download took us hours to complete, and on many occasions a network error occured, causing us to have to start it up again. Thankfully when it crashes you do not have to start from the beginning though.
The other unfortunate aspect is the fact that you cannot download the patch in the background, meaning you may have to just leave your PS3 on and on the sideline for a solid day to get the patch done.
