April 22, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to a report, Sony is getting ready to launch a new video download service for the next-gen Sony PS3 this summer. The video download service will contain videos, television shows, as well as full-length movies. This new download service would allow Sony to take on Microsoft’x Xbox 360 and the Xbox Live service, which offers similar content.
The report comes out the L.A. Times which stated that Sony is in talks with many studios to offer movies and other content on a new video download service for the PS3.
The current PlayStation Network online service offers games, demos, as well as Blu-ray disc previews.
This will greatly expand the service with all types of digital media content.
Sony’s video download service would supplement the Blu-ray disc option which is exclusive to the PS3 compared to other video game consoles.
The content would likely be in both standard definition as well as high-definition, depending on the user’s preference.
