80% Of Wii Consoles Purchased For Family Use
April 30, 2008
London (dbTechno) - According to the UK retailer Currys, research has shown that 80% of Nintendo Wii consoles purchased are for family use. This is up from 20% a year-and-a-half ago.
Currys is working on a new system which will help rate games, aiding parents in their hunt for family content.
The biggest game in the UK as of right now is Wii Fit, which launched last week pulling in some huge sales numbers, quickly jumping to the top of the charts.
Currys believes that this shows that families want to play video games, more specifically the Wii, together.
Currys head of brand Amanda Clift stated “Video gaming is now a mainstream form of familyi entertainment and we’ve seen a huge surge in the number of non-core gamers purchasing consoles and games.”
It should be interesting to see how effective their own rating system actually is.
