GTA IV Garners $500 Million In Week 1, Pushes Xbox 360, PS3 Sales

Boston (dbTechno) - Critics have been praising Rockstar’s GTA IV ever since they got their hands on it, as have common gamers as the gaming world has been blown away by the game thus far. This is clear and evident when you look at the retail numbers as the game has taken in over $500 million in its first week, breaking all records.

The game took in $526 million in its first week of sales, selling a total of 6 million copies, with over 3 million being sold within the first 24 hours.

Take-Two Interactive has called the launch “the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment.”

Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick stated “We believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date.”

The game sure is raising quite a bit of controversy, but that is not slowing sales down one bit as gamers are continuing to pick up this release if they haven’t done so already.

Sales of both the Xbox 360 and PS3 video game consoles have also seen huge spikes since the launch of GTA IV, with more people willing to buy a new console just to play GTA IV.
