PS3 Release Pushes Gran Turismo Above 50 Million Units

Boston (dbTechno) - Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that the worldwide shipment of the Gran Turismo franchise has now exceeded 50 million units. The Gran Turismo franchise launched back in 1997 and has appeared on the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. The recent release of GT 5: Prologue on the PS3 pushed it above the mark.

Sony stated that within 10 years and 4 months, the franchise has shipped more than 50 million units around the world.

Sony touted the release of the seventh installment of the racing franchise, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, stating that it continues the evolution of the franchise on the PlayStation platforms.

The company talked about the success of new features such as Gran Turismo TV, in-game online modes, downloadable content, new cars, and more.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, they stated, has shipped more than 2 million units worldwide thus far.

The producer of Gran Turismo, Kazunori Yamauchi stated “I would really like to thank all the fans who have supported the Gran Turismo series over the years, for all their passion and love of the game. We’d like to continue making every effort to create cutting edge, high quality games, so that we don’t disappoint anyone’s expectations.”
