HG Controllers Xbox 360 4-Button Mod Review

dbTechno reviews the HG Controllers 4-Button Mod for Xbox 360HG Controllers Xbox 360 4-Button Mod

Manufacturer: HG Controllers

HG Controllers was kind enough to give us the opportunity to test out their 4-Button Mod for the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller. It is not an easy task to take a controller which has received as much praise as the Xbox 360 controller has, and then improve upon it further. That is exactly what HG Controllers has managed to do here though.

The way in which the HG Controllers’ 4-Button Mod for the Xbox 360 controller works is that it takes the four face buttons, the A, B, X, and Y buttons, and then duplicates them on the underside of the controller.

So basically what this does is it takes those four buttons and places them on the bottom of the controller, while still leaving them on the face of the controller.

This may sound strange at first, but it actually does work quite well. The design of the added buttons is great as they are basically tiny black buttons, meaning they are not big enough that you could press them by accident at any given time, though it is still entirely possible.

The layout of the buttons is also nicely done as they sit on the back of the controller right where your fingers lie to grasp the controller.

You would think that this would work best with FPS games, but we found the buttons to be extremely effective in other games as well, adding a whole new level of convenience and efficiency to the gaming experience.

Games such as NBA 2K8 served well with the controller, as we were able to make passes to players on the court, while still having our right thumb on the right analogs tick at all times to take jump shots, dunks, etc. This goes for other gaming experiences which rely heavily on the analog sticks as well, such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008, The Club, etc.

Again though, the main reason for this controller mod is so you never have to take your thumbs off of the analogs ticks during FPS, and for that it works great.

There is clearly a learning curve, as you will have to train your fingers to push these buttons in key situations. Once you learn how it works though, and you get comfortable with it, you will find yourself performing far more efficiently we found in many types of games.

HG Controllers has the 4-Button Mod for the Xbox 360 controller priced at $89, with the Xbox 360 controller coming shipped with everything installed and ready to go. For those who want a truly innovative and solid Xbox 360 controller with a little extra to help you out in games, this product from HG Controllers is a very safe bet!

Final Score: 9.0 dbTechno Recommended!
