We had the privilege of being able to check out the GelaSkins for the Nintendo DS as well as the Apple iPhone. For this review we are going to focus in more on the Nintendo DS. The Nintendo DS Lite is definitely a nice looking piece of hardware, but there is always the want to protect your investment, and also add some spice to it by making it look unique.

Basically what the GelaSkins are is basically skins for your portable devices. On their official web site they have these for notebooks, iPhone, as well as the Nintendo DS Lite.

The way in which the skins work for the Nintendo DS Lite is pretty simple. They come in four parts, each covering a variety of areas on the Nintendo DS Lite from top to bottom.

Once thing I was extremely impressed about was how well they fit on the DS Lite. Once you have the skin implemented onto your portable console, you will not even realize that you have the skin on there, as it fits that perfectly.

The GelaSkins are of extremely high quality as well as they truly are easy on and easy off. We were able to put it on, and then take it off a few different times to try out the various designs we were allotted for this review.

The two back pieces are pretty easy to get onto the DS Lite as you have one for the top cover, and one for the bottom. The hardest part is the front of the DS Lite as you have to match up the GelaSkins with the holes of the displays, speakers, etc.

Once you get it on there though everything lines up absolutely perfectly.

In terms of protection, the GelaSkins definitely serve their purpose of keeping your DS Lite from getting scratched and beat up. This is in no way a protection from dropping your DS Lite though as it will certainly not be able to do that. The skins may be a bit of a hassle to get on perfectly, but once they do the reward is grand.

GelaSkins has the tag line of “Protection With Style, Not Bulk” and they are absolutely right on both fronts as the skins are of extremely high quality and will protect from scratches. They are very thin and also are quite nice looking, as the company offers a variety of designs on their main site.

For the $20 investment, this is a no-brainer for any DS Lite fan as it allows you to be unique with your favorite handheld, and protect it as well!
