NPD Shows GTA IV, Wii Leading Video Game Sales In May

The NPD Group released the U.S. sales numbers for the month fo May, with Grand Theft Auto IV and the Nintendo Wii leading the way overall...Washington (dbTechno) - The NPD Group released the U.S. sales numbers for the month fo May, with Grand Theft Auto IV and the Nintendo Wii leading the way overall.

The biggest selling game for the month fo May was GTA IV on the Xbox 360,which managed to sell 871,300 units, while the PS3 version of the game sold 442,900 units.

The Nintendo Wii led the way with console sales though as Nintendo managed to dominate yet again.

Nintendo sold 675,100 Wii consoles coming in first place, followed by the Nintendo DS which sold 452,500 units.

In third was the Sony PS3 with 208,700 units, followed by the Xbox 360 with 186,600 units. The Sony PSP was in fifth with 182,300 units sold.

Nintendo also did well with games as they had 7 out of the top 10 best-selling games in May on their consoles.

This was led by Mario Kart Wii, which was in second with 787,400 units sold, and Wii Fit which sold 687,700 units.

Compared to this time last year, sales are up 37%.
