Sony Studios Is Lone Supporter Of PS3 Movie Download Service
June 27, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - It was announced just yesterday that Sony would be launching a movie download service for their next-generation PS3 console this summer in the U.S. According to report though, Sony Pictures is the only studio actually signed on to supply movies.
The biggest question that came out of the announcement in Tokyo yesterday, beyond the price point for the movie downloads, was what actually would be offered.
It is one thing to have a movie download service, but it is a completely different thing to actually have movies that people want to pay for, download, and watch.
According to a report from Variety, the only studio signed on for the movie download service as of right now is Sony Pictures.
Beyond that, there have apparently been absolutely no deals made with any other major studios.
This could lead to a very lean line-up of movies set for release this summer in North America.
