Immersion, Microsoft Reach Settlement Over Sony’s Money
August 27, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - Immersion has reached a settlement with Microsoft over their Xbox controllers. The settlement will have Immersion paying over $20 million to Microsoft.
Back in 2002, Immersion, known for tactile feedback technology, filed a lawsuit against both Sony and Microsoft.
The lawsuit stated that both were guilty of patent infringement.
Both of the suits were settled soon after, allowing Microsoft and Sony to continue to use their vibration features in their controllers.
In June 2007 though, Microsoft sued Immersion, as it was said that Microsoft was supposed to receive a part of Immersion’s settlement it got from Sony.
Following this, Immersion fought back by stating that Microsoft broke off a confidentiality agreement.
The two have since reached a settlement, which will have Immersion paying $20.75 million they received from Sony, to Microsoft.
In exchange, Immersion will also be admitted into the Microsoft Certified Partner Program.
