PS3 Review

Developer: Toys For Bob

Publisher: Activision Inc.

The original Madagascar was a huge hit in the box office due to the fact that like other animated films, Shrek and Wall-E come to mind, it managed to appeal to both adults as well as kids.  With the release of the sequel, we also get the release of a brand new game based around it.

So the big question coming out of this is whether or not the new Madagascar game is good enough for kids to check out on the Sony PS3?

The new game picks up right where the first  movie left off as you have Alex and the rest of the animals trying to get off of the island.  The whole game is set up in a very interesting and unique way as you actually do quite a few mini-games.

These min-games will come at you in rapid-fire one after another and do keep the game fresh once the game kicks off.  On top of that, you also have other gameplay styles which make it more like an adventure/platformer than anything else.

This was a great approach to take to this game as it allowed it to stay away from the thought that a game based on a movie such as this has to be a repetitive platformer.  This proves that this does not have to be the case as it manages to remain fresh throughout with the mix of platform elements as well as the various mini-games.

Once you do get bored of the single-player game you can go back and choose from a selection of mini-games you will get to go through at any time.  These mini-games also offer multi-player gameplay so you can play with up to three other friends.

Some mini-games are quite fun, wit h examples being Jungle Chess, Monkey Match, Mini-Golf, etc.

The game is a lot of fun and is the type of experience that can be enjoyed by beginner gamers, as well as more experienced gamers out there.

This is because the mini-games and such are simple enough that you will be able to pick up and play this without a problem, but have enough depth that you will rarely get bored of what is going on.

The only issue I had with the gameplay was the camera, which had a tough time keeping up with the action in some instances.

Madagascar Escape 2 Africa is a great game for the younger gamers out there who loved the movie.  It remains fresh throughout with a great deal of gameplay variety, and also packs in multi-player elements.  Overall, this is a package worthy of picking up for the younger crowd on the PS3!

Graphics: 8.0 A nice looking game with great character models and animations.  Not quite up to par with the movie presentation, but not bad!

Audio:  8.0
The audio gets a boost due to the fact that the voice-work stays true to the film.  The young ones will enjoy the comments!

Gameplay: 7.8 As stated, it does a great job of staying fresh with the combination of mini-games and platforming elements.

Replay Value: 7.0
The single-player game is not that long and is a bit easy, multi-player is a bonus but co-op and online modes would have been better.

Final Score: 7.8
