Guitar Hero World Tour
PS3 Review
Developer: Neversoft
Publisher: Activision
Players: 1-4 (8 Online)
Guitar Hero World Tour is the answer to the release of Rock Band a year ago, as it introduces the full band set to the Guitar Hero franchise with the addition of drums, microphone, and bass support to go along with the guitar. So is this enough for Guitar Hero to solidify its spot as the king of the music games, or is it just a copycat?
Guitar Hero World Tour is being offered in a bundle on the PS3 which comes with a drum set, guitar, microphone, as well as the game itself on the Sony PS3.
The guitar and microphone are pretty self-explanatory, but to get into the drum set a bit more is something that needs to be done. The drum set included in Guitar Hero World Tour is absolutely fantastic, and is far superior to the set included in Rock Band 2. You get two mounted rubber pads to hit, along with the three pads meaning you end up with five pads and your bass pedal. Needless to say, this is the best drum set to release for any music game to date.
One thing not self-explanatory with the guitar though is the addition of some new buttons to play around with, such as the sensor pads for playing certain notes, a much better whammy bar, as well as strum. Overall the guitar itself is wireless, which is a bonus, and is far improved over the one packed in with GHIII.
Getting down to the good stuff, the soundtrack in Guitar Hero World Tour is top-notch with some great tunes that are going to please fans who enjoy all types of music. There are over 80 songs packed on here from bands such as the Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Jimi Hendrix, all the way to Michael Jackson.
Getting into the various modes of gameplay you can go through, there is your campaign mode which is used to unlock all of the songs and stuff in the game, and has a lot of variety.
The variety comes in that you can play as any instrument in the band that you like, so if you want to sing your way through go for it.
Another very cool mode is the Music Studio mode, which lets you create your own three minute song using the instruments in the game. This is a blast and allows you to get very creative with the sounds. Once completed, you can upload your song online, to a maximum of five songs.
There is also the robust online features that allow you to take your band online to continue rocking with the rest of the world.
Guitar Hero World Tour is a dream come true for music fans of the Guitar Hero franchise as it introduces some great new instruments, packs a solid soundtrack, and introduces some great new features such as the Music Studio mode. If you want to get a music game, Guitar Hero World Tour with all of the fixings is a great buy!
Graphics: 7.8 The visuals look just as they did in previous games, lacking detail but doing enough to get the job done.
Sound: 9.2 The soundtrack is immense with over 80 songs, and they sound great!
Gameplay: 9.0 The drums are very well-done, and the improved guitar is just as impressive!
Replay Value: 9.2 Plenty of songs, the Music Studio mode, online features, etc. This is the ultimate party game for music fans!
Final Score: 8.9
