Resistance 2
PS3 Review
Developer: Insomniac Games
Publisher: SCEA
Players: 1-2 (60 Online)
For those of us who purchased a Sony PS3 on launch day, the game to own was Resistance Fall of Man from Insomniac Games, simply due to the fact it was the most polished and high-octane shooter available. With two years gone by, Insomniac Games is back again with the sequel, and believe it or not, it is even better than the original!
The very first time you get to play Resistance 2 you are going to be hooked, it is just that type of game. It is the type of game that in just five minutes can grab you by the neck and pull you in for hours, as it is an extremely engrossing experience.
The audio aspect of Resistance 2 is great stuff with some fantastic sound effects with the weapons, impact-full explosions, as well as other little ambient noises you will pick up in your surround sound as you are going through. This is an extremely well-done game from the audio standpoint.
As for the graphics, this game is a definite upgrade over the original as a lot of improvements have been done to textures, animations, lighting, etc. That is not to say that the visuals of the game are perfect, because to be honest they are not and there are better-looking games out there (COD World at War), but needless to say the greatness of the game does not lie in the visuals, but instead in the gameplay.
The way in which the game controls and plays out is where it showcases its brilliance, as the game will suck you in and not let go until you are completely finished. The game is absolutely stacked with a great deal of excitement, aggressive gameplay, and non-stop action.
From the very first five minutes of the game you are going to be dragged in with the incredible speed of the game. Everything happens at such a rapid pace that you are going to be going nuts trying to keep up with it, in a good way. The whole motions of the game with the animations and all of that stuff does a great job of setting a pace that is constant, hectic, yet controlled all at the same time.
The entire single-player campaign has some good length and is enjoyable enough that you are definitely going to want to go back for more.
Once you are done with the single-player campaign though you get to hop online for 8-player co-op and 60-player battle action.
Both are extremely enjoyable and add a great deal of depth to the entire package, not to mention some amazing added value. With the multiple classes in co-op, you can do all types of leveling up, adding strategy and such to the game.
Once you are done with co-op you can hop into massive 60-player Deathmatches and all types of other highly-addictive game modes.
Resistance 2 is an in-your-face shooter that will hook you in the first couple of minutes and never let go. If you own a PS3, this is an absolute must-buy!
Graphics: 8.8 The visuals may not be perfect, but they are definitely a step up from the original Resistance.
Sound: 9.0 A tremendously well-done audio mix here with great sound effects.
Gameplay: 9.2 The game is extremely fast-paced and highly-addictive.
Replay Value: 9.5 Good length to single-player campaign, then you get 8-player co-op and 60-player battles, need I say more?
Final Score: 9.2
