50 Cent Blood on the Sand
Xbox 360 Review
Developer: Swordfish Studios
Publisher: THQ
Released: February 24, 2009
50 Cent is back at it again and is set to star in his second video game, this time in the form of 50 Cent Blood on the Sand.
50 Cent Blood on the Sand is the follow-up to the hit game 50 Cent Bulletproof, which solidified the rapper as a star among gamers everywhere. The original game released in 2005 and was a huge seller, topping one-million copies.
I was a bit skeptical heading into the sequel, as I assumed that it was more about cashing in on the success of the original than anything else. This really is not a sequel in any way though, it is merely the second video game to star the rapper that always seems to be larger than life.
You play as 50 Cent, and can go through the game in co-op with a fellow G-Unit crew member if you choose to do so. These members include Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, or DJ Whoo Kid.
You are thrown into this urban environment in the Middle East where 50 Cent is set to star in a rap concert. The rapper does not get his money, but instead is given this skull, think the latest Indiana Jones movie.
Needless to say, the skull gets stolen, and 50 Cent heads out to get it back, and does not let anything stand in the way.
You are going to find yourself shooting up terrorists, and plenty of other enemies that will be coming at you with plenty of machinery.
The game is really strange to be quite honest as the whole premise of it is very out-there. That does not mean that it is not fun though, because it actually is.
The game relies on you moving from area to are, keeping cover and firing at the enemy when you can. You can use your surroundings to the best of your ability, using all the actions being mapped to a single button, A.
There are also combos and such set up in a co-op atmosphere making it enjoyable to try and be more stylish in the way you blast through these levels.
The more stylish you are with killing, such as hitting someone right between the eyes, the more points you will get. This allows you to build up style points to go into a bullet time mode, and do all sorts of cool stuff.
There is plenty to love about this game, and plenty to keep you coming back. With the more points you earn, and the more money you earn throughout the game, you get to purchase better weapons and such, ranging from small guns up to rocket launchers and all of that good stuff.
In terms of longevity, the real gold here is in the form of the online co-op mode, which allows you to jump in and out with friends over Xbox Live. This is an absolute blast and really adds some replay value to the game as it is a lot of fun to have this arcade experience online.
50 Cent Blood on the Sand is a very enjoyable arcade-style shooter that is very fast-paced, polished in terms of the graphics and sound, and is a lot of fun to play. If you are looking to have some fun with a great co-op game on Xbox Live, or just love shooting up stuff, this is certainly worth checking out!
Graphics: 8.4 Some fantastic details in the character models, areas, etc.
Audio: 8.5 The 50 Cent tracks will please fans, sound effects are solid as well.
Gameplay: 7.8 The game is not perfect, but it is fast-paced and a lot of fun.
Replay Value: 7.6 The big aspect here is the online co-op.
Final Score: 7.8
