Gold’s Gym Cardio WorkoutWii Review

Publisher: Ubisoft

Released: April 2009

Wii Fit has proven to be a huge success, getting gamers and non-gamers together to work out in a big way, getting in shape while having fun with a video game at the same time. Looking to build on that success and continue to push the whole fitness genre on the Wii is Ubisoft with the release of Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout.

Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout focuses mainly, as you would guess, the aerobic or cardio portion of everyone’s workout.

The whole idea here is to get your body moving to burn up some serious calories doing a variety of different workouts.

As soon as you jump into the game, the first thing that you will do is to make a character, basically your Mii for the game.

This is pretty standard stuff to get started, and it was a bit disappointing I could not just use my Mii, but I’m assuming Nintendo would not allow it, so with that said it gets a pass.

The various types of workouts available here are actually a lot of fun, and will have you doing much more just than running in place.

As stated, there is tons of stuff here that will really have you working up a sweat, as the boxing workouts that the game features are put together well, and would really make for a fun and hard cardio experience.

As for the controls, everything here works well, as the game will allow you to use either two Wii remotes, or the Wii remote and Nunchuk combination. The two Wii remotes definitely work the best though.

The game also supports the Balance Board, but to be quite honest it seems more like a tacky add-on than anything else as it really does not work all that well with the game.

Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout is, in my opinion, a great game to compliment Wii Fit. The game does a great job of allowing you to get a very strenuous cardio workout in to get those calories burning. If you aren’t the type to get a cardio workout in by running on a treadmill, in place, etc. Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout is well-worth checking out on the Nintendo Wii.

Graphics: 6.5
The whole presentation is nothing to really write home about, but everything looks good enough.

Sound: 7.5
The audio does a nice job of trying to motivate you, but could be a bit more engrossing.

Gameplay: 8.4
The game controls well and really gives you a great cardio workout.

Replay Value: 8.2
The game will get harder with more strenuous workout as you go, and there are also things you can unlock for your character.

Final Score: 8.0
