The Munchables
Wii Review
Namco Bandai Games
Released: May 26, 2009
Namco Bandai Games has released a brand new adventure game for the Nintendo Wii, which aims to try and appeal to the younger crowd, and does so successfully in a few key spots.
The Muchables is a fairly well-done action-platformer that will put you into a very colorful and entertaining world.
You begin the game on the planet Star Ving with these munchables creatures large and in charge.
The munchables are very interesting creatures, as they work to try and protect these orbs from evil space pirates.
These evil pirates are not your typical Jack Sparrow types though, they are actually fruits and vegetables, yea, pretty strange.
The game may sound pretty awkward, as well as shallow, and it actually is in some areas, but not so much in others.
The game shines in some key areas, as these munchables take down their enemies by locking them in their stomachs, eating them basically. As they do this, they grow in size, and are able to reach new areas and such.
That is pretty much where the platforming elements stop though, as there are some decent item collecting, but nothing too over the top.
There are some unlockable elements, as you have the ability to put some cool gear on your munchables with the more items you are able to collect.
The Munchables is a very interesting title, but the issue with it is that there really is not a lot of depth to the game. A lot of the gameplay elements will feel repetitive very quickly, and the level of difficulty is non-existent, as it is beyond easy.
The 24 or so levels will be able to be blasted through quickly, but there are some opportunities to play through it again thanks to the ability to play it in a mirrored mode, and to decorate your characters.
The graphics and the audio are some big highlights, as this is actually one very good looking game with some great detail, and a lot of colorful environments. The audio is also strong, as it has an energetice feel that fits the game well.
The Munchables is an average action-platformer that will certainly appeal to the younger crowd who thinks fruits and vegetables are the devil. Worth a rent for young games, but lacks the depth to be worth a full purchase.
Graphics: 8.2 A very strong looking Wii game, extremely colorful.
Audio: 8.0 Audio is quite energetic, a good soundtrack.
Gameplay: 5.5 The game plays well, but is far too easy and lacks depth.
Replay Value: 6.0 The game is quick and quite easy, harming the replay value greatly.
Final Score: 6.8
