Forza Motorsport 3
Xbox 360 Review
Developer: Turn10
Publisher: Microsoft
Released: October 2009
When the Forza Motorsport franchise originally kicked off some years ago, the belief was that it was Microsoft’s answer to the Gran Turismo series on the PlayStation. With the release of Forza Motorsport 3 though, this franchise may have just surpassed the king of simulation racing.
The way in which this game controls is absolute perfection on the race track, and to be quite honest, surpasses any racing game I have played
There is an amazing sense of realism here in this one as you can truly feel the physics of the cars, as each varies from model to model.
The great thing about this one though that sets itself apart from the rest of the pack in terms of simulation racers is that it really and truly is a blast to control and play.
There is a sense of speed and enjoyment in this game that lets you achive that amazing sense of realism, while still having an out-of-this-world racing experience.
You will truly feel connected and in-control of each and every car you drive, making it very comfortable from the first time you get behind the wheel.
The game design here is set up so that gamers, no matter their experience level with simulation racers, will truly feel at home.
There are things here that allow gamers to keep in a driving line, auto-brake, etc. so that the game can help you and assist along the way. This keeps you from feeling lost, and as you improve, you can shut more and more of these features off. There is even a rewind feature in-case you need extra help and make a key mistake.
This is not to say though that those who use these assists will be rewarded just as much as those who are experienced. The experienced racers who turn off the assist will get extra money and points earned for the better lap times, so it all balances out nicely to be honest.
The game modes here are quite strong, especially the single-player campaign which will take hours to get through as you earn money in the over 200 events, customizing your cars, purchasing new cars, etc.
The multi-player is fantastic as well as the community has really been tailored to here, allowing you to customize games, jump into matches and events quickly, and more.
The social aspect to the online modes here add a lot to the game, as you have your FOrza profile as you have a community page, a profile page, etc. This is where you can check on tournaments you are in, see all of your stats, upload photos, videos, and more. You can also save and sell custom vehicles which you have worked on.
Visually, this is one great-looking game, and is pretty similar to what we saw ftrom Forza Motorsport 2. The environments look fantastic, and the car models are extremely detailed. The game runs at a smooth 60 frames-per-second.
Audio is also another very strong-point with the car engines sounding extremely realistic, and the musical soundtrack also adding a great atmosphere.
Forza Motorsport 3 is pure heaven for fans of racing simulations, as this game truly does surpass anything ever released in the genre. We have a new king of racing simulations, and it is Forza Motorsport 3 on the Xbox 360.
Graphics: 9.5 The car models and environments look amazing.
Sound: 9.5 A great soundtrack and engine sound effects.
Gameplay: 10 Flawless, amazing physics and perfect for both novices and experts.
Replay Value: 9.5 The online community will keep this game alive for a very long time.
Final Score: 9.8
