Breastfeeding Mom To Get Extra Time On Exam
September 27, 2007

Boston - A Havard medical student will be given addition time during her exam in order to pump breast milk for her baby, according to media reports Thursday.
A Massachusetts court says Sophie Currier must have an extra break time during her medical licensing exam. The school gives students 9 hours to complete the exam, but will now give Currier an additional 60 minute break.
Currier says that she faces medial risks if she is unable to nurse her baby or pump breast milk every 2 to 3 hours, reported CNN.
She sued after the National Board of Medical Examiners denied her request for more than the standard 45 minutes of breaks during the exam.
In Thursday’s ruling, the appeals court said Currier needs the additional break time to put her on “equal footing” with men and other women who are “non-lactating.”
“our overriding concerns are fairness to all examinees and the integrity of the exam, which serves as an important gateway to medical practice,” said Joseph F. Savage, Jr., attorney for the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), “Our Position remains that the exam’s sponsors have in no way violated Ms. Currier’s rights”
NBME co-sponsors the exam.

HOW DEAR ANY LITTLE GIRL THINK SHE’S THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS BREAST FEED A BABY.(IT SHOULD NEVER BEEN IN A PUBLIC PLACE)FIRST OF ALL. TAKE YOUR BREAST & GO HOME IN THE COMFORT OF A PEACEFUL PLACE.I FOR ONE HAVE TO MUCH RESPECT FOR MYSELF & CHILD.AND I NEVER ONCE THOUGHT THAT SOCITY SHOULD HAVE TO CHANGE,TO SUIT WHAT I WANTED. PUMP THE MILK & PUT IT IN A BOTTLE FOR THE TIME YOU CAN’T WIP IT OUT.I’M SURE WHEN SHE GOES OUT W/ FRIENDS @ NIGHT WHO’S FEEDING THE BABY THEN? ALL THIS LITTLE GIRLS WANTS ,IS TO HAVE HER A MOMENT IN THE SPOT LIGHT.
Cindy you are an asshole
It looks like the previous poster has no valid points to her comments.
.
The article states that the test is 9 hours long with only 45 mins for break. She needs to nurse OR pump every 2 to 3 hours, she simply was requesting an additional hour of break time to accomplish that.
From what I remember when my kids were that young, my wife could get VERY uncomfortable if she was unable to nurse at regular intervals.
Also, who are you to comment on if “she goes out w/friends @ night”? I would imagine she is probably exhausted from school and home activities (not to mention possible work activities). Sorry for not using all caps
I agree with the above statement… How these girls maintain when they are out and doing some fun stuff…
This is totally wrong, Judge might be distracted to give this kind of judgement by seeing one side of the coin…
I’d be happy to “milk both of those breasts” for her. I would then need a break myself?
seriously with her “adhd”, she is already probably already takeing adderall (amphetamine). She and every ather student on this type of medication is cheating.
Seriously, potential employers should watch out for this type of laziness, etc. This doctor will make great specialist type of doctor.
David, I’m with you. How Cindy and Chan can impute facts not included in the article is beyond me. What’s the big deal? The girl asked for some additional time to be able to care for her child and she’s the only one that can do it. So what? Give her the time and call it a day.
Listen to Rick et al talk about “facts not in the article”!
This woman *already* takes the test over the course of two days. She’s already sued the board to give her more time than the normal one day that everyone else gets.
Her sense of entitlement is overshadowed only by the society of enablers like the commenters in this article.
” ‘Rules? What rules? I’m different and special and rules don’t apply to me. I can do whatever I want!’ “
Not to mention…this woman wants to become A DOCTOR! You’re ok with letting rules slide with DOCTORS?!
I agree with David and Rick. Cindy and Chan use your brain (if you have one).
