Obesity Rates Across The Country Level Off

Boston (dbtechno) – Obesity rates across the U.S. have leveled off, according to a new government report.

The report, which monitored statistics from 2005 and 2006, found that the obesity rates have remained the same — roughly 30 percent of the population.

Cynthia Ogden of the National Center for Health Statistics stated “This is encouraging. I think we can say that obesity in women is stabilizing, and I’m optimistic that we may be seeing a leveling off in men as well.”

Obesity among women has remained the same over the past several years — with the obesity rate among men only slighly increasing.

However, as WIlliam Dietz of the Center For Disease Control (CDC) points out, the new report does not suggest that the obesity rates will start to decline.

“This doesn’t mean we’ve turned the corner on obesity, but we might be at the corner,” said Dietz.

Across the United States, it is estimated that 72-million adults are obese — or one and three people of the total population.
