Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new survey, the majority of Americans support the idea that people should be required to have medical insurance. They also support he government helping out those who cannot afford it themselves.
The survey was done by The Commonwealth Fund which is an independent foundation focused on health policy reform.
They found that making health insurance mandatory for people was supported by 80% of Democrats, 52% of Republicans, and 68% of independents.
Overall 68% of Americans support making medical insurance a requirement.
During the campaigns of Democratic and Republican presidential hopefuls, a main topic of interest from voters has been health insurance, reform, and how to get insurance to American people.
There are over 45 million people in the United States without health insurance, and the number climbs each year.
Among the candidates, there is not one Republican that has stated that they would make health insurance mandatory for people. Among Democrats, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton stated that every American would eventually be required to have health insurance. This notion was also supported by Sen. John Edwards. Sen. Barack Obama stated he would make it mandatory to have medical insurance for children only.
