Bird Flu Death Toll Hits 100 In Indonesia
January 28, 2008
Jakarta (dbTechno) - The bird flu death toll in Indonesia has hit 100 after it has been confirmed that a 9-year-old boy and 20-year-old woman were both killed by the virus just outside of Jakarta, Indonesia.
The H5N1 bird flu virus has continued to hit Indonesia the hardest out of any other country in the world. Out of the 222 human deaths worldwide, Indonesia has 100 of them within their borders.
Health officials are now nervous because of the upcoming Lunar New Year. The fear is that the H5N1 bird flu virus could spread further and infect many more people within the country.
The 9-year-old boy became sick back in the middle of January with the H5N1 bird flu virus, and died on Sunday. The 20-year-old woman became sick around the same time and also died in the hospital.
There are two more people around the age of 30 who are also currently infected and being treated for the H5N1 bird flu virus.
Health officials have been pushing to cull millions of poultry to keep it from spreading, but it is a tough task which continues to become more tiresome by the day.
